Shabbat
We believe in Shabbat as a radical practice of rest. There are many ways to engage in this practice, and we invite you to join us each month for whichever modalities feel resonant to you.
1st Friday: Nariya (Kabbalat Shabbat & Shabbes Dinner)
Nariya is our monthly musical Kabbalat Shabbat service and dinner (kosher pescatarian with DF and GF options). Join us to raise your voice, catch your breath, and move your body as we create a circle of sound to welcome Shabbat. All ages welcome. We meet at Beth El – The Heights Synagogue in Cleveland Heights, which is ADA accessible.
Nariya was created by Rabbi Micah Shapiro and inspired by the work of Rabbi Ruth Gan Kagan and Nava Tehila. It is a collaboration between Cleveland Jewish Collective, Kol HaLev, and Mitsui Collective.
2nd Saturday: Shabbat Hike
Join us to enjoy Shabbat outdoors. This is a chance to connect with each other and the earth. The location and difficulty varies month to month. All ages welcome.
3rd Friday: Shabbes Dinner & Tish
Join us to welcome in shabbes together with brief ritual and a potluck dinner, followed by a Tish (an Ashkenazi tradition of shabbes singing). Everyone is welcome to lead or teach a song! It doesn’t have to be a Jewish song. It can be in English or Hebrew or Yiddish or Ladino or any other language, or have no words. It should be something that is fairly simple and easy for people to pick up. All ages welcome. Location varies and is outdoors when weather permits.
4th Saturday: Prayer & Torah Study
Join us for Shabbat prayer and/or Torah study. Our prayer is songful and interspersed with poetry. During Torah study, we bring our own lives and experiences into conversation with Jewish tradition, and see what meaning we can make together. In between prayer and Torah study we have a potluck lunch. We meet at Pilgrim UCC in Tremont, which is ADA accessible. These gatherings are geared toward adults, but we have a few games and activities available for little ones to play.
